The Council of Ministers about World Exposition EXPO 2015

On 25 March 2014, the Council of Ministers adopted the “Concept Programme of Polish participation in EXPO 2015 in Milan, Italy. Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life 1 May – 31 October 2015.” The document is a springboard for further activities related to Poland's participation in EXPO 2015.

EXPO is the most important and prestigious promotional world event and a unique opportunity to create a favourable image of participating countries.

The intention of the organisers of the Polish Section EXPO 2015 is: to attract the largest possible number of visitors, to promote Poland and Polish economy, and to become part of the leading theme – “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.” Poland wants to show itself as an active, valuable and both modernity-oriented and tradition-loving Community member.

“The Concept…” provides framework for Poland’s participation in the World Exposition EXPO 2015 in Milan. It will be supplemented and adjusted as programme and creative work evolve. It is also a basis for a broader programme of government and non-government organisations, conducting activities promoting Poland in Italy. The initial verification of the “Concept…” will happen on 31 August 2014, and the final one – by 31 December 2014.

World Expositions EXPO are the largest and most prestigious promotional world events. For years, they have been an excellent opportunity to build an image of their participating countries and present their achievements in their exposition theme. The aim of the organisers of the Polish Section EXPO 2015 is: to attract the largest possible number of visitors; to promote Poland’s image and its economy; to become part of the leading theme of EXPO 2015: “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.”

Under the “Concept…” the Polish Pavilion, Polish exposition, the National Day and other accompanying events are aimed to show Poland as one of the key members of the EU, a modern country of positive transformations. The Milan event will be the first thematic EXPO featuring such a large share of the farming and food sector, which is considered a Polish specialty.

The main goal of Poland’s participation in EXPO 2015 is to build an authentic and long-lasting trust to the POLSKA brand and the Polish Economy Brand by presenting Poland as an attractive international partner and consequently to create the association of Polish economy with international economy.

Events and activities delivered within the "Concept…” have been prepared in such a way so as to build a favourable image of Poland as a country which is economically attractive, and a place of valuable contacts and investment.

The anticipated cost of Poland’s participation in EXPO is ca. PLN 57 million. More than 75 per cent of the costs will be financed from the systemic project as part of the Innovative Economy Operational Programme. The currently planned budget funding in the anticipated overall costs of Poland’s participation in EXPO 2015 is less than 25 per cent.

The basis for the work on the “Concept Programme of Polish participation in EXPO 2015..” was Resolution of the Council of Ministers of 4 December 2013. Contribution to the origination of the “Concept …” was made by the representatives of the Ministry of Economy, Polish Agency for Enterprise Development, Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Ministry of Sport and Tourism, Polish Tourist Organisation and the Agricultural Market Agency. We relied heavily on Poland’s experiences in world expositions in Saragossa, especially on the Polish success in Shanghai.

According to the Concept Programme EXPO 2015 in Milan, the Polish economy promotion programme will be delivered in line with the following themes:

  1. Poland as a country of economic success, corresponding to the success once achieved by Italy.
  2. Poland as a country where, like in Italy, farming became the driving force behind economic growth and exports.
  3. Poland as a country making efforts, just like Italy, to close the development gap within the country. (The Eastern Poland Economic Promotion Programme).
  4. Poland as a country with European lifestyle, country of people who – just like Italians – appreciate the quality and pleasures of life, and are open and friendly.
  5.  (Programme: Poland smiles).
  6. Poland as a modern country preserving tradition, a country where family is top value like in Italy.
  7. Poland as a country of modern design, a country that is successful – like Italy, and in particular Milan – in fashion and design.
